Studies on Performance of Pulse Shaped OFDM Signal Written by Administrator Wednesday, 16 March 2011 08:55 Last Updated Monday, 21 March 2011 07:29 The Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) transmission system is one of the optimum versions of the multi-carrier transmission scheme. The OFDM is referred in the literature as Multi-carrier, Multi-tone and Fourier Transform based modulation scheme. The OFDM is a promising candidate for achieving high data rate transmission in mobile environment. In this paper, different power spectral density (PSD) curves of OFDM signal with various pulse shapes are presented. The final pulse shaped OFDM waveform is then analyzed for frequency domain response and the PSD in each case and it’s also an analyzed on the basis of its modulation index which equally varies with the used window function during transmission. The simulation results are presented in a tabular manner enabling to analyze and establish the superiority, at a glance, of a specific window function applied (pulse shaped). The OFDM signals with the pulse shapes, like Rectangular, Blackman, Gaussian,Hamming and Hanning are tried. The effect of some of these time waveforms on the OFDM system performance in terms of power spectral density (PSD) & modulation index has been investigated.

Intercarrier Interference of Various Pulse Shaping Functions Used in OFDM Systems with Carrier Frequency Offset

For orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) communication systems, the frequency offsets in mobile radio channels distort the orthogonality between subcarriers resulting in intercarrier interference (ICI). This paper is focused on the problem of reducing the intercarrier-interference (ICI), signal to noise ratio and improved performance in the transmission over OFDM using various puls...

ICI Reduction Through Shaped OFDM in Coded MIMO-OFDM Systems

The default pulse shaping filter in the conventional multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) based orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system is a rectangular function, which unfortunately is highly sensitive to frequency synchronization errors and the Doppler spread. Shaped OFDM is able to considerably alleviate the effect of inter-carrier interference (ICI) as well as reduce t...

Using WPT as a New Method Instead of FFT for ‌Improving the Performance of OFDM Modulation

Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) is used in order to provide immunity against very hostile multipath channels in many modern communication systems.. The OFDM technique divides the total available frequency bandwidth into several narrow bands. In conventional OFDM, FFT algorithm is used to provide orthogonal subcarriers. Intersymbol interference (ISI) and intercarrier interferen...
